I Conclude (I Can Be All Things)

By David Spence

'The Starry Night' by Vincent van Gogh

I can find you people who think I'm great And plenty more who think I'm not And for all those times that I remembered There were all the times that I forgot

I can give examples where I was kind And I can give examples where I was cruel I can tell you stories that make me proud And the ones where pride turned me into a fool

Now I'm not looking for an honourable mention I'm just assessing who I am But I know if I seek redemption It's actions that maketh the man

I can tell you things that make me laugh And I can tell you things that make me cry I can tell you one of my favourite things Is the shape of clouds in the night-time sky

I can list the times that I was wrong And list the times that I was right And for all the times I made some sense There were many more where I was talking shite

I'm not trying to be perfect Nor would I ever strive to be And I'm not looking for any pity But I would quite like a symphony

Now I'm not looking for an honourable mention I'm just assessing who I am But I know if I seek redemption It's actions that maketh the man

I can recount times of great despair All the times my heart's been broken I can tell you when I fell in love And of beautiful moments where no words needed spoken

I can tell you what you mean to me If you are so inclined to enquire And whilst I'm known to have told many truths You should know I've also been a liar

And I conclude I can be all things It's up to me to make the choice But I'm still shy and far too often I let others shout and drown out my voice

I'm not trying to be perfect Nor would I ever strive to be And I'm not looking for any pity But I would quite like a symphony

Now I'm not looking for an honourable mention I'm just assessing who I am But I know if I seek redemption It's actions that maketh the man
