Power is an interesting thing. We know that power can be used for good and for bad but to have power over someone, over another living being, who has a whole entire life full of thoughts and feelings and decisions that they control, is sinister. Power can push someone out of the driving seat of their life. To have power over someone allows you to manipulate and govern a person’s actions, thoughts and feelings to all kind of extents. Power isn’t a tangible, physical thing, it is not something we can see, hear or touch, but it is there. It is there for anyone to take hold of. Pretty much anyone can muster up and channel power if they have strong enough intent, and with power in the wrong hands, the intent is never good. It is scary when you think about it. When a person has power over someone, the victim may not even notice as they have been conditioned to feel and act the way they do through careful manipulation from the person in possession of power. While the world surrounding the victim may repeatedly voice concerns and communicate to the victim what they themselves cannot realise, the victim may not fully take this on board. Even if they do realise that in some way they are being controlled, they can, and often will, easily revert to their previous state of ignorance and denial peddling excused like ‘they love me, I know they do” and “they just want what is best for me”. An onlooker might wonder how a person could not recognise that they are being manipulated, but therein lies the true power of power. It can be so strong, so persuasive, so shapeshifting. In the clutches of the wrong person, power can wear a smile, it can manifest all kinds of fake love and care just to keep you in its firm hand. The wrong people with the wrong power do not want you to realise that you can fight against it. Power is not physical, a person is. While power can influence, it is the person who has the final say and a person who lives by the command of others and not themselves will have a difficult time being happy.
